Volunteer with us!
Volunteers are essential to the services we provide. We are always looking for new, committed members of our community to help with our peace work. Apply to become a mediator, or to volunteer in other ways!
Become a Volunteer!
We welcome your interest in becoming a volunteer at our center. You must live, work, go to school, or be enrolled in a program in Baltimore City in order to volunteer with us.
Please submit this application. Our Volunteer Management Team will get back to you shortly.
As a volunteer, you'll be supporting the center through outreach, office support, mediating cases, and/or in other ways that nurture BCMC’s work. You can decide to volunteer with us as a General Volunteer, or as a Volunteer Mediator. In both cases, an application and interview are required.
As a General Volunteer, you would not be required to fulfill a particular number of volunteer hours. When convenient for you, you would fulfill volunteer opportunities that BCMC offers, tell people about BCMC’s work in your daily life, and let BCMC know about ways you’d like to support its work.
As a Mediator: We offer a free 70-hour Inclusive Model Basic Mediation Training (BMT) and apprenticeship in exchange for 120 hours of volunteer service over 2 years. If you have not been trained in the Inclusive Model of mediation (by Community Mediation Maryland or Baltimore Community Mediation Center), you will need to complete that BMT in order to mediate or observe mediations with us.
In order to be eligible for the training, you must first complete 10 hours of general volunteer time with the center. If after completing BMT you are unable to fulfill the 120 hour volunteer service commitment, you will reimburse BCMC $20/hr. for the amount of volunteer hours you have not completed. This is reimbursement for the BMT you received. After Basic Mediation Training, there are also free advanced trainings, mentorship, and Performance-Based Certification available.
